Before I get into my used Billy Cook barrel saddle sale review, I want you to know that there’s nothing like riding in a new saddle.
And even though every horse rider may dream of riding in a new, fresh off the tree saddle, the reality is that for financial reasons, some people may have to opt for a used saddle instead.
Don’t get me wrong, there are multiple benefits to buying a used saddle. Those reasons are often overlooked. That’s why I’m excited to to talk to you about the used Billy Cook barrel saddle sale that’s happening as I write this post and the benefits of owning used!
Used vs. New Saddle
Used Billy Cook Barrel Saddle Sale Price
The most obvious benefit to buying a used saddle is the price. Let’s face it, horse riding is a fun, but expensive hobby. From the equipment, like a saddle, to other expenses – like caring for your horse, horse riding apparel, event costs and more – horse riding requires having disposable income.
Yeah. This hobby isn’t cheap.
So, any money you save by buying a used saddle, means you’ll be able to spend that money on other things related to your hobby – like riding apparel and events. Or, maybe taking that trip you’ve always wanted. Used saddles sometimes save you from 25% to 50% lower than brand new saddles.
Used Billy Cook Barrel Saddle Sale Quality
The saddle manufacturing company in this sale, which is the Billy Cook company, takes great pride in what they sell. This is also true in what they re-sell. Every saddle Billy Cook receives through their trade-in program, is guaranteed to leave customers satisfied.
Here’s how the used Billy Cook Barrel Saddle Sale works.
The craftsmen at Billy Cook thoroughly review all traded in, used saddles for any damage or flaws. They then fix any imperfections before they put these used saddles back on the market.
This means that a Billy Cook used saddle meets the same high-quality standard as that of their new Billy Cook saddles
Used Billy Cook Barrel Saddle Sale – Usability
A saddle that’s already been used has one big advantage over a new saddle. It’s already been broken in. Ask any horseback rider and they’ll tell you that trying to break in a new saddle is not easy and can sometimes be uncomfortable for horse and rider.
It’s like a new pair of shoes. Sometimes, they hurt your feet until you get used to them. Same with a used saddle – only the work has already been done for you!
Used Billy Cook Barrel Saddle Sale – The Process
The craftsmen who sell used Billy Cook saddles are experts in their field and know their saddles. Each used Billy Cook saddle that’s re-sold goes through an extensive screening process to ensure that they hold up to the company’s standards.
Once a used saddle is offered for a trade-in, the used saddle is inspected for any flaws. If any flaws are found on the used saddle, those flaws are repaired. Then the saddle is cleaned and oiled so that the saddle looks brand new.
Next, an expert photographer takes high-quality images of the used saddle without the use of photoshop. Then the saddle is posted online with the accompanying accurate measurements.

What a terrific review of the Billy Cook Barrel Saddle. I’ve been around horses all my life but although I know my saddles I’ve been riding in hacking and dressage so the saddle s are completely different. I truly love the idea of having all this leather holding you in instead of just knee grip and weight.
What a great offer they make to pass their professional eye over second-hand saddles, spruce them up and check for safety and give a guarantee. You can’t ask for better than that. I wonder how much a new one is compared to the second hand ones?
Hi there. Thanks for your comment. Yes, knee grip and weight won’t help evenly distribute weight over the horse’s back – the right saddle with the right size tree will. Whether there are big savings on a new saddle compared to a used one really depends on the brand and the type of saddle. Some saddles, like Cashel, and Double J are super expensive to begin with. So their used counterparts, won’t be that much cheaper. But if you’re looking to buy Circle Y, Big Horn and/or and Billy Cook saddle brands, these brands are reasonably priced already. So a used saddle sale in any of these brands will likely save you a lot of money. And remember, there’s always a money-back guarantee.
Hello there! I always wanted to ride a horse but I never had the chance to do so. I never knew horse saddles can be so expensive. I guess that would similar to buying new and used textbooks for students right?I have a friend who owns several horses as a a hobby, so I will be forwarding this article to them. Thanks for this informative post!
Hi Mike. Thanks for commenting. I love your analogy. I remember those days when I was a college student and the difference between a used textbook and a new one was an arm and a leg. LOL. It’s pretty much the same when buying new or buying used horse saddles. And like textbooks, you can sell the saddle back to the manufacturer providing you bought the saddle from a reputable company online – such as The Horse Saddle Shop – which has a remarkable trade-in program and promises you a money-back guarantee. Please feel from to refer your friends.
Hey Shalisha. Very interesting article. To be fair I’m just starting my adventure with horse riding and all advice is extremely helpful. To be fair, I had never heard about Billy Cook saddles until your review of these high quality products. Now that I see the affordable price of used saddles, I’m tempted to give buy one.
Hi Cogito. Thank you for your comment. I would recommend that if you’re just starting out, buy a used saddle. It will help you decide what’s the best saddle for you, while keeping your cost low.
Thanks for your comment. Keep coming back.
I’m so glad I came across your site! I grew up barrel racing and with horses. Growing up it was always exciting getting a new saddle. Take a few pictures of it in pristine condition and they get to breaking it in. A saddle is not fully appreciated until it is fully broken in, oiled, scuffed, etc. I can’t even explain the expense of a new saddle versus a used one. I’m going to forward your site to my sister who is still an avid barrel racer. Thanks for the great article and providing such a great resource!
Hi there. Thanks for your comment. Yes, there are pros and cons to buying a new vs. a used saddle. But in the end, the biggest payoff of buying a used saddle, when purchasing from a reputable company, is that it’s below price and it’s already broken into.
They are beautiful saddles. Even if they’re used, the good thing is that they are already broken in. What if a used saddle that is broken in is used for a horse that has never had that saddle, wouldn’t you have to break it in again? I was just wondering 😉 I don’t buy many used items, but knowing that these used saddles go through a screening process is very reassuring. These saddles look amazing, sturdy, and of good quality!
Hi. Thanks for your comment and your question. Just like saddles come in all different sizes, styles and uses, so do horses. Certain types of horses are used for certain disciplines. That’s why it’s important to take your horse’s measurements before buying the saddle. Some horses are high-withered, short-backed, etc. Take the measurement of your horse’s back first before buying a saddle. I highly recommend you read my post on Western Saddle Tree Sizes. It shows you how to measure your horse for the right seat size.
Hi there Again! Thanks for another cool review. Well I will tell you what? This article right here was really informative.
