Basic Horseback Trail Riding Tips

Before you go out and buy your first pair of trail shoes, there are some basic horseback trail riding tips that you will want to be aware of.

If you want to get into the sport of riding on horseback, you have to know how to dress for the job properly. This is where the fun starts. The first few times that you ride, it is recommended that you wear trail riding chaps.

If you ride often, you can change them out every time you ride to prevent getting dirt or mud in them. Here are some horseback trail riding tips you will enjoy.

Horseback Trail Riding Tips #1

Helmet

When you are ready to dress for the sport, make sure that you always have your helmet. You never know when you might fall. Also, you never want to get too dirty. You do not want to have spots on your face or a dirty stain on your clothes.

If you have no choice, you should wear shirts with synthetic materials.

Horseback Trail Riding Tips #2

Riding Boots

Other tips include wearing boots with steel toes. You will find that your boots will help to protect your feet. This is a critical consideration when riding your horse. You will want to avoid boots with laces because they will keep your foot dry all the time.

Horseback Trail Riding Tips #3

Riding Gloves/Riding Jeans

Riding jeans are a bit of a bane at times. They will attract more dirt and mud, which you don’t want to happen while you are riding. If you can afford to spend the money, you might consider a nice pair of riding Jean. They are available in many different styles and colors.

Riding gloves are important too – especially if it’s cold out. Riding gloves come in all types and sizes. If you’re working on a ranch, you’d buy working gloves. If you’re endurance riding, you’d by gloves for that discipline. If you’re going on a trail ride during the winter, buy winter trail riding gloves.

I have cowboy boots, and everything I would need to ride a horse. But, I love the fatbaby boots! They are so cute! Do you know if they run true to size? I generally do not buy shoes online because the sized can vary so much. I hate to have to return and then wait again LOL

Hi Leahrae. Thanks for your question. I too don’t like buying shoes or boots online because I never know if they are true to size. The good news is that http://www.HorseSaddleShop.com has a 24/7 chat feature where you can ask them directly. They also have a toll free number. (800) 448-1602.

    Hey,

These are great tips and they will be so helpful for my niece who is still going through her riding lessons. I have shared this article with her parents and I hope they find the tips valuable.

The boots look very cool and I wouldn’t mind to have a pair of those boots myself 🙂

I will keep you updated on how my niece finds your tips and if she has any questions then I will get in touch.

Thank you for sharing and keep up the great work.

    All the best,

    Tom

Hi Tom. Thanks so much for your comment. Yes, those boots are rocking, right? Keep sharing this stuff with your niece. She’s going to need some tips.

  • Hi,

Thank you for these wonderful Horseback Trail Riding Tips! The horse is one of my favorite animals and actually, where I live, horse riding activity is not very accessible. But sometimes I travel to certain regions just to have encounters with horses. I’ve only actually been horseback riding 3 times.

I liked how you explained the good riding posture technique (Ear-Hip-Heel)

    Continue the great work!

    Cheers!
